Wave Sail Dominates Staples at Cedar Point Yacht Club

By Libby Markham

This past Tuesday, Darien High School’s Varsity Sailing team participated in a regatta at Cedar Point Yacht Club against Staples High School. Sophomore Lauren Miller played an important role at the regatta as crew for senior Ryan Jones. “The wind ranged between 6-12 knots with inconsistent gusts. Even with the variation of wind puffs and a ripping current pushing us down the start line, our team successfully won both races in very stable positions. In the first race we came out really strong, with our three boats finishing in a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place combination, winning most of our pairs right off the start and continued to compete aggressively the entire race.In the second race we place 1st, 2nd, and 6th. Our boat in 6 helped hold off the opposing team so we could keep the stable 1, 2 combination. We had great communication all throughout the day that clearly showed in the final results. Our team is off to an excellent start this season,” Miller said.
