Softball ace Christina DeMaio (pictured) has high hopes for the future of the team after she graduates next month. “We have had such a great season this year thus far,” DeMaio said. “The 20th (of May) was our senior day and this week we will be going into FCIACS, and after that, States. Our FCIAC record is currently 16-2,” she said. DeMaio attributes the strong season to the bond the girls formed this spring. “We all have really enjoyed playing together this season, and our time together being as successful as we have been. Being a senior, I can say this is not only one of the most successful seasons DHS softball has ever had, but also the most memorable, unique, and enjoyable,” DeMaio said.
Right now, DeMaio’s looking to the next step. “We hope to be very successful in both tournaments. The level of competition will be increasingly intense.” DeMaio also has nothing but great things to say about the team, “My favorite part about this season is the great mix of people we have from coaches to players. We have quite a few freshmen this year that start and play with varsity, and each and every one of us contributes positively to our success and makes this group so unique.”
When asked about her least favorite thing about the season, DeMaio says, “I guess something that is difficult sometimes in all sports is how short the season really is and how every moment of every game means so much; especially now going into FCIACS. We all have really made the most of our season so far, and I am confident that it will continue from here,” she said. The great softball season is the not the only high note for this talented senior. Next fall DeMaio will leave her high school playing days behind when she attends the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
