The Darien Blue Wave squared off against Brien McMahon with a 10-2 win on Saturday. Starting pitcher Christina DeMaio (pictured) went strong throughout the game and raised her record to 10-1. The varsity girls’ softball game went on like a track meet, as the Wave ran all over the opponents, stealing bases and capitalizing on errors in the field. Despite the final score, the game was close in the third inning with McMahon putting a run on the board with a laser double by the clean-up hitter. Later in the fourth, Darien went up by five with a score of 6-1 when junior Alexa Tarantino scored after stealing second on sophomore Olivia Gozdz’s double to center. Hot-hitting senior Mallory Kahn also propelled the Wave to a win with a double in the fourth. DeMaio was relieved by senior pitcher Kristen Perry. After Perry shut down McMahon in the final two innings, it was all her ball game. The girls next game will be away on Monday against Danbury.
