The Darien Blue Wave softball team upped its record to 9-1 after beating Bridgeport Central 8-0 on Wednesday. Senior captain, Christina DeMaio, pitched the first five innings, striking out nine batters. Senior Kristen Perry (pictured right) finished strong, pitching the last two innings. “Offensively, it took us a little while to get started, but after we got the bats going, there was no stopping us,” senior Mallory Kahn said. Kahn was 3 for 4, slamming a triple, a double, and a single. Freshman center fielder, Olivia Gozdz, hit two runs in with a triple on an error. Junior, Michele Piccaro, added to the unstoppable offense with a double. Defensively, Darien didn’t allow many girls on base. “It was another big win for our team,” DeMaio said. “We are now looking forward to the tough games ahead.” Darien will face Brien McMahon, Fairfield Warde, Danbury, and St. Joes in the next week.
