Darien Rugby won its last league game of the year against Xavier 17-7 at Royle Elementary School on Wednesday. Xavier was ranked no. 4 in the country coming into the game and the Blue Wave beat its B side with tries by sophomore scrum half Kevin Keller, junior fly-half Connor McCarthy, and sophomore inside center Sam McCarthy. DHS controlled many of the rucks and line-outs in the game, allowing them to maintain ball control and go up 12-0 at the end of the first half. The highlight of the second half was a goal line stand by the Wave, who fended off Xavier's attack for several minutes, including holding up a Xavier back in the try zone preventing him from scoring. "We played really well, it was magical," captain Connor McCarthy said after the game. This finishes up the team's league schedule, and they have one more game against Fairfield Prep on Monday.
