The Girls' Track and Field team took second yesterday at the FCIAC meet, losing to the Danbury Hatters. With some of the worst weather conditions of the season, many athletes got their best times or distances this year. Both the 4x800 team, run by seniors Sam Stuek, Brooke Pfister and sophomores Amanda Dobler and Megan Keane, and the 4x100 team consisting of seniors Meg Gilbert (pictured), Caroline Zuckerman, Grace Doering and junior Meredith Jordan took third place.
Jordan took sixth in the 100m dash and fifth in the 200m. Senior Amanda Koslo and junior Sam Simon took third and sixth in the 400m. In the 800m, senior Erica Long took sixth . Senior Caroline Boulton took fifth place in the 300 hurdles. In the mile, junior Kelly Brophy placed seventh and senior Hadley Riegel placed ninth. Junior Hannah Lyons ran her best personal time, qualified for States and took 15th place. “She CRUSHED her time,” said Brophy while everyone celebrated her huge moment.
Senior Kristen Long took first place in the Pole Vault, with sophomores Charlotte Phillips and Elizabeth Crafford taking second and fourth respectively. In the long jump, Gilbert took third. Junior Christy Gasparino won triple jump and Gilbert took sixth. Gasparino also stole the lead for high jump, winning the event.
The throwers had a hard time throwing in the rain, but freshman Victoria Kominek took ninth in javelin and junior Aimee Rich took thirteenth in discus.
